Samuel Henry Whipple I7921 was a real challenge. He first appears as Samuel H. (in the 1850 census, with his family in Woodstock, Windham, CT), but in all subsequent records he is Harry S or Henry S., including in his father's probate, where he is in the list of heirs as "Henry S. Whipple of Rutland, LaSalle County, IL" [Connecticut Probate Records, 1759-1931, Probate Court (Stafford District), v. 21, p. 71, FHL film 1,320,436, images 65-66]b. 31 Dec 1842 [probably Union, Tolland, CT] [exact date from gravestone at find-a-grave memorial # 93918215][Springdale Cem records say he was born Ashford, Windham, CT (find-a-grave memorial [ 137252155])[Yes, he has 2 find-a-grave memorials]

[Henry S. Whipple] m. (1) Rosella (Rose) Susan Clark on 12 Jul 1863 at Hartford, Hartford, CT [Connecticut Marriages, 1630-1997, FHL film 3282 (Hale Collection), image 2065][The Hale Collection has an error: the marriage date is correct, but the date of the newspaper issue is incorrect: Hale says 18 July 1863, but the marriage announcement actually appeared 14 Jul 1863, Hartford Courant (Hartford, CT): "MARRIAGES. In this city, July 12, by the Rev. J. W. Leek, Henry S. Whipple and Rose S. Clark, both of Hartford." [Newspapers.com, extracted 29 Oct 2019] and the actual government record of the marriage records the marriage as between Henry S. Whipple, 21, b. Ashford, CT, res Hartford and Miss Rosella S. Samuel Henry Whipple I7921 and Rosella Susan Clark divorced 10 Mar 1868 at Hartford, Hartford, CT [Hartford County, CT Superior Court Civil Files, Box 53, 1868 Term, "Whipple vs Whipple" AND v. 33, Divorce, p. 280, obtained from Connecticut State Library, 7 Nov 2019]
The divorce petition states that he deserted her on 1 Jan 1865, leaving her with two minor children, issue of said marriage, viz Carrie 3 years, George, 2 years (as of the date of the petition, 2 Jan 1868)
