!NOTE: Email from Anne Billeter (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple on 3 Nov 2021. Anne shows that Josephus, listed by Henry Burdette Whipple and Blaine Whipple as the son of Benjamin H. Whipple and Christee Ann Akers, is actually the orphaned son of Benjamin's brother Humphrey. She writes:
According to "Birth, Death and Marriage Notice Pages in an old leather-bound Bible," a typescript found at Connecticut State Library in July 1984 by Barbara Whipple Billeter:In 1850 Josephus is an orphan, having lost both parents. He is 7, living in Groton, Tompkins, NY with his uncle Benjamin I7146.
- Josephus Humphrey Whipple was b. 3 Aug 1842, son of H.H. & Nancy Whipple.
- Humphrey H. & Nancy Ann Whipple mar. 14 Dec., 1827
- Humphry [sic] & Cinthy Whipple mar. Mar., 1843
- Nancy (wife of H.H.W.) died 9 Aug 1842
[I surmise Nancy died from the birth of Josephus, 6 days after he was born.]- Humphrey H. died 17 Dec 1846
9 Apr 1858 Benjamin Whipple died [from notice pages in Bible]
In 1860 Josephus is living in Venice, Cayuga, NY with his uncle Benjamin's widow "Christiana" [Christee Ann (Akers) I102156], her son William 26, William's wife Evalina 22 [I47245], and William & Evalina's son Benj. A. 10/12I do not believe Benjamin H Whipple and Christee Ann had a son Josephus. I believe he was Benjamin's orphaned nephew.
