!SOURCE: Email from E.W. Bromley (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 28
Aug 2002. Cites the British Columbia Archives; husband Clifford's obituary in
The Colonist, Victoria, B.C.; "Let's Celebrate! [which reads]: CLAUDIA WHIPPLE
Died April 15, 2000. Age 92 Mrs. Whipple lived in the Sidney area and was
active in community affairs for the last 40 years. She loved to travel, bake
and sew and always had a project on the go. She trained as a dietician but was
unable to obtain work for many years due to the Great Depression. As a result,
she spent a great deal of time in Alberta with her grandmother, Henrietta Muir
Edwards. Henrietta was one of the "Famous Five" who petitioned for the right
of Canadian women to be "Persons". Claudia was very knowledgeable about her
grandmother's work and life and generously lent Mrs. Edwards' artwork to the
Canadian Women's History Month Committee for a Women's History Showcase at the
Royal BC Museum. Claudia Whipple was also the niece of Senator Edwards whose
home at 24 Sussex Drive is now the Prime Minister's Residence. She had several
children, grand children and great-grandchildren. She will be missed." Also
cites Claudia's obituary "from The Times Colonist, Tuesday, April 18, 2000:
WHIPPLE - Claudia Margaret Ellen "Granny" (nee Gardiner) aged 92, November 22
1907 - April 15, 2000. Passed away peacefully after a brief illness. Her
husband, Clifford Whipple and daughter Peggy Bowcott, predeceased her. She
leaves her daughters, Mary Lacerte, Bonnie Muir, Nicki Edwards and Louise
Whipple, 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, one great great
granddaughter. She was very active in Sidney, B.C. where she has lived since
1952. Enjoyed her Bridge Club and loved to do baking for their weekly
meetings. She was involved with many charities and tried to help everyone she
could. She was truly a loving, giving person. / Services will be held at St.
Mary's Church 1973 Cultra, Saanichton, B.C. Aprill 22 at 1:pm. In lieu of
flowers, donation may be made in her name to the Mercy Ships, her favorite
charity. She will join her husband in Fort MacLeod, Alberta June 3 2000 where
a graveside service will be held, She will always be loved and never
forgotten."
