!NOTE: This notice of Malachi Whipple appears in _Landmarks of Albany Co., N.Y._, by Amasa J. Parker, under "The Town of Berne," page 499: "Malachi Whipple came from Stonington, Connecticut, in 1793 and passed a useful life on what was known as the Whipple Farm. It was long considered as the model farm of Albany County, and took several premiums at fairs. In 1825 Mr. Whipple removed to Berne Village when he purchased the grist mill property and other real estate. He held many positions of trust." --H.B. Whipple, 2:47

"In Old Hellebergh, 1975 reprint of 1935 first edition, by Arthur B. Gregg, it says of High Point Cemetery, Knox, (known early on as the Whipple Cemetery):
Here is the grave of Amos Whipple whose headstone shows him 87 when he died in 1826 and near him his son, Malachi. Malachi followed his father in ten more years but not until he had left his name well known in the whole county. His name appears at the Severson auction in 1814 where he bought two heifers. and frequently in our ledger of the 'Wayside Inn.' Just to the north of the cemetery we can see his old home still occupied and owned by his direct descendants, who cultivate the farm that in 1820, the second year of such awards, received the premium for the model farm in Albany county. His interest in the improvement of agriculture was shown in our account of the first Albany County Fair. In 1826 he served as member of assembly in the forty-ninth session. To him goes the distinction of being the supervisor of the town of Berne in 1821, and of the town of Knox the next year without changing his residence, for in 1822 Knox came into being as a separate township. 'In his day,' say Howell and Tenny, 'he was a recognized leader.' [History of the County of Albany New York from 1609 to 1886 by Howell and Tenny (New York: Munsell, 1886) ]"
