Lawrence WhippleLawrence Millward Whipple, 91, of rural Mediapolis, died Monday afternoon, July 21, 2003, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born Jan. 15, 1912, in Bradgate, he was the son of George and Lizzie Millward Whipple. In 1943, he married Lorraine Rauhaus in Cedar Rapids.
Mr. Whipple was a heavy equipment owner/operator doing various conservation construction for many area farmers. His work included building six of the seven ponds at Seven Ponds near Sperry.
He enjoyed nature and earth preservation. He attended Oakville Apostolic Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife; one son, James Whipple of Wapello; three daughters, Gail Bennett of Peoria, Ill., Twila Martin of Iowa City and Martha Noll of Farmington, Utah; six grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; and two sisters, Eleanor Hickle of Cedar Rapids and Arlene Hergenrether of Medford, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, three sisters and three brothers.
Mr. Whipple has donated his body to science for study.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis.
A memorial service for Mr. Whipple will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established for the Mediapolis Community Ambulance
Service.
