!BIOGRAPHY: "When his father died in 1851, he went to live with his Uncle Jim and Aunt Carolyn Brown on "Chapin's" farm in Hartford. James enlisted in the army 1 Dec 1861, for three years, but received a medical discharge 16 May 1862. James raised his family on the farm beside the North Granville Cemetery and later moved to the Lowell farm on the hill where Jean Whitney now lives. He died of pneumonia in 1922." --N. Parry and B.L.
