!BIOGRAPHY: "Joseph (Guiseppe)was Catholic -- Joseph came to America 05 Apr 1902 he was 16/17 yrs old -- Joseph's daughter, Ivona, remembers the family receiving a letter with a black stamp on it. Italian culture states the black stamp meant death in the family. Joseph said that he was so sick on the trip over and then afterwards, that he couldn't go thru the trip to Italy again. -- He stated in his Declaration of Intention, in Elk Co, Penna 26 Apr 1909, working as a bar tender. His complexion: dark, 5 ft/10 in tall, 170 lbs, black hair, brown eyes, with a slight sear between the eyebrows -- He left Italy in Naples, on the ship: Balilla. He was living in Lanciano, Italy before leaving-arriving at the port of New York, NY -- He signed his own declaration.

"Then on 20 Jun 1911 he petitioned for Naturalization in Jefferson Co, Penna in Falls Creek-working as a merchant. Both petition and declaration gives birthdate and place. He was living in Ridgeway, Elk Co, when he declared he wanted to be a citizen of USA. Someone else signed his name-it looks like the person who filled out the papers. The witnesses of his petition were Conrad D. Kistler, Oil Dealer in Falls Creek and William S. Mullica, Glass worker, Falls Creek. Joseph had to be in USA for at least 5 yrs before filing for declaration. The court admitted him as a citizen, 18 Jan 1912. He stated to have married after filing petition, to Florence, age 26.(daughter of witness William S. Mullica) -- Morningside Cemetery, DuBois, Penna -- Soc. Sec. applic gave father/mother's name. -- Death Certificate stated parents unknown - he died in Clearfield Co, hospital, but residence was in Falls Creek, 101 First St., Jefferson Co." --S.W. Parker
