!SOURCE: Email from Patty Matthews (email hidden) to the Whipple Website, 20 Oct 2000. Cites a "1810 Petition of Isaac Whipple [Nathan's brother] in the Estate of his father, Nathan Whipple [Nathan's father], dec'd." Also cites the 1810 census for Newport Twp, the 1830 Newport Census, the 1840 Hanover Twp Census and the 1873 City Directory.

!SOURCE: Email from Barry Jernigan (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 19 Aug 2008. Cites Deposition of John Hoover, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, 2 Aug 1860, posted to email hidden and copied in full in Barry's email. The deposition indicates that Daniel Sims married Catharine Hidder in the fall of 1808 and "lived together as lawful man and wife in the Township of Newport in the said County of Luzerne for about six years." Daniel (a "near neighbor") went to war in 1814 and died in the service of the United States. (Neighbors indicate that Daniel died of dysentery.) Catharine subsequently married Nathan Whipple (deceased), "whom she married about six or eight years after the said Sims departure."
