!SOURCE: Jacket of Maureen's book entitled "The Giant Joshua" (Salt Lake City, Utah: Western Epics, c1976) indicates that Maureen was born in St. George, Utah. The Library of Congress gives her birth in 1904. Email from Veda Hale (email hidden), 11 May 2000, gives additional information about her ancestry. In email dated 18 May 2000, Veda writes: "Maurine was born January 20, 1903. She hated to use her real birthday, because she wanted to look younger. Usually she threw away 10 years."
