Joanne writes: " Found Ebenezer Sproat's Commission paper, designating him a Colonel of the Miitia of he County of Washington (Ohio) dated 5 Aug 1797 and signd by Winthrop Sargent, Esq. acting as Governor and Commander in Chief of the Territory of the United States, North West of the River Ohio."

!OCCUPATION: "Sproat was granted the job of surveyor for the Northwest Territory by Congress after he wrote a letter to George Washington requesting the post. Which led Abe [Sproat's father-in-law] and his wife to move to Marrietta where Sproat settled." --R.W. Lange
