!ANCESTRY: "Of New London, tracing, through Samuel Whipple of Groton, to John Whipple of Providence, RI, who was in Dorchester, Massachusetts, as early as 1632." --heidibeth, quoting C.E. Robinson.

Hodges Gardner, Ancestors and Descendants of Daniel Gardner V. and Mary (Hodges) Gardner, Late of Champaign, Illinois: With Other Gardner and Hodges Records and Historical and Biographical Notes (Asbury Park, N.J.: Martin & Allardyce, 1915), p. 43, which states that Thomas was "of New London, born in 1748; died in New London 4 October, 1804." Robert writes that "I know that this is about the correct Thomas Whipple because it later speaks about his wife, Catharine Jeffrey, his sons, etc." (Note: Thomas's birth was previously entered as 1750.)
!ANCESTRY: "The most reasonable supposition seems to be that Thomas Whipple was a grandson of Samuel Whipple, of Groton, born 1669, who was in Groton across the river from New London, in 1709, where he died in 1729. He was the son of Samuel Whipple, of Providence, son of John Whipple, of Dorchester, Massachusetts, 1632. Samuel, of Groton, had sons, but which son or grandson settled in New London is not known" --D. 43.
!PARENTS: Could he be the 9th child of Zachariah Whipple (RIN 647?). Probably not, because of an email from R.G~ to Weldon Whipple on 15 Jan 2014: "1) Zachariah wrote a will 1758 and among the minors listed in his Will were Hope, Content, Zachariah, Jr, and Elizabeth.YThomas being born in 1747 seems would surely have been named a s a minor too but this seems not to be the case. 2) Births of the 8 [sic] known children of Zachariah were all recorded at New London."
