Mary Isabella Whipple was graduated from Franklin Academy, Malone, in 1896, and was subsequently engaged in teaching in Chateaugay rural schools for a period of three years. After marriage, she continued to live in Chateaugay until 1906, when she and her husband sold their farm and moved to Malone, where he became a partner in a coal and wood business and also shipped wholesale produce to New York City. In 1912 the couple bought a farm a short distance east of Malone. Mary Whipple Salls died at the family home there six years later.
