• Memorial of Samuel Appleton of Ipswich MA, Isaac Appleton Jewett, 1850 (this source notes Samuel's children as Oliver, John, Major Isaac, and Joannah who m Nathaniel [sic] Whipple? and had a son Appleton b 1693?. Source also cites Joannah Appleton dau of Isaac (brother to this Oliver, granddau of Samuel) who m William Story of Boston, grandfather of the late Judge Story.
• Ancestry of William Francis Joseph Boardman, Hartford, CT, Wm F. J. Boardman, 1906 Cites Joanna, dau of Samuel Appleton b 1624, (the one m to Mary Oliver) as the Joanna who m Nathaniel Whipple? Oliver b 1676/77, son of Samuel and Mary, m Sarah and d 1759, no other wife given. This conflects with info in the Samuel Appleton Memorial as to Oliver's wife.
• A rough sketch of the Appleton genealogy (Wm S. Appleton, 1873) states Joanna, dau of Samuel and his wife Mary Oliver, b Ipswich, m Matthew Whipple of Ipswich, he d 1.28.1739. This same source notes it was Mary Appleton b 10.93.1724, dau of John Appleton b 5.28.1695 and Mary Allen, who married Nathaniel Whipple of Ipswich who died 12.19.1809 - this would be the Nathaniel b 10.7.1721 attributed as husband of Mary Appleton dau of Oliver and Sarah Perkins in other sources. This source shows Oliver , son of Oliver Appleton and Sarah Perkins as b Ipswich1702, m 1.9.1729 Bethiah, dau of _____ Whipple, child William Whipple b Ipswich 1732 d 1736. Bethiah d 1736 and he m secondly Sarah Frail who d 1811. He d 1787.
