!SOURCE: Email from Florann Thoma McKoy (email hidden) to the Whipple Website, 22 Feb 2001. Her note reads as follows:
I received a little tidbit of information from Robert E. Ogren, Ph.D. author of "MEET THE PASTORS OF FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, WILKES-BARRE,PA. 1770-1996" He is a noted historian for the Presbyterian Church and extremely knowledgable about events that occurred during the time of the Wyoming Valley Massacre. He wrote me the following, "I found a reference to an Isaac Campbell who was listed as killed on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River on 8th April 1778. His name was listed under the rank of Privates who were killed in this early military action. He was not listed under Captain. The full battle of Wyoming was on the East Branch of the Susquehanna at Wyoming, Pa on July 3,1778. A list of Officers and Privates killed in this "massacre" includes a Private Isaac Campbell. I am inclined to think these are both the same person, apparently killed in the early part of the warfare when the Tories and Indians swept over the West Branch. There were a large number of Campbell residents in the West Branch near Williamsport. There is a prominent rock outcropping on the East bank of the Susquehanna just north of the entrance of the Lackawanna River marking the northern portal of the Wyoming Valley." I thought I would send this little bit of information on to you for others researching Campbells. I am not currently working on them, and this might help someone else who is interested it the Campbell family.
