!SOURCE: Email from Hugh Hudson (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple on 11 Jun 2012 suggests that Elizabeth is not the wife of Thomas Hopkins. He cites (and forwards) an email from Kevin Avery (email hidden), as follows:

Unfortunately, the 1878 article in NEHGR predates Cutter.

More recent histories, including The Great Migration Series starting in 1995, call Elizabeth Arnold, b.1611 and daughter of William Arnold and Christian (Peake) Arnold, the wife of William Carpenter rather than wife of Thomas Hopkins. The Carpenter family mess created in 1903 by Amos Carpenter was recently straightened out in NEHGR articles in 2005 and 2010. (See in particular Vol 164, article starting on pg 36.) I was involved with a few other find-a-grave contributors sorting out the Carpenter family on Find-A-Grave.
