Cited by Joanne Lahr-Kreischer in email to Weldon Whipple, 26 Apr 2003: " Whipple, Russell, a son of Otis and Amy (Harkness) Whipple was born in Richmond, NH Jan 22, 1820. He married 1840 Mary Scollay, daughter of Grover Scollay. During the ensuing 20 years they resided in Ashburnham, in Royalston, Richmond, NH, New Ipswich, Wichendon and again in Ashburnham. He enlisted in the 53rd Regiment and was killed at Port Hudson June 14, 1863; she died Nov 11, 1882."
