"From the 1860 Federal Census for Jackson County, Melrose Twp Wisconsin apparently there is one Galton Whipple born in NH abt 1804, his wife Mary born in PA, William O. born 1843 in PA, and Mary born 1847 in Wisc. I have never seen this information except in already transcribed form. Recently I got an image copy of a Wisconsin State Census for Jackson County Wisc. from the WIGenWeb site. It is supposed to be from 1855 (two years after the county was formed), however the ennumeration sheet image lists it as June 1 1865. This census only lists the names for head of households and then how many males and females reside there. Melrose Twp is still today very small. I looked through all of the Melrose Twp images and found only one Whipple. One Gaylon Whipple not Galton Whipple. In the total household were two males and two females, the same number from the 1860 Fed Census. I have attached a copy of the 1855(1865?) WI State Census page that includes Gaylon Whipple. Gaylon Whipple is the 28th name on the pageI believe that Galton is a mistake in trascribing the 1860 Fed Census. I am trying to track down an untranscribed copy of that 1860 Fed Census for Jackson County Wisconsin to verify my assumption that the name has been transcribed incorrectly."I also believe that Galton (Gaylon) is the same as Galon son of Ichabod Whipple Jr. listed on the Whipple Website. Gaylon was from NH and born abt 1804 which fits with Galon from Richmond, Cheshire County, New Hampshire. No date is listed for Galon but 1804 would fit in with his siblings dates of birth. Galton (Gaylon) we know went to PA where he presumably married Mary and William was born there in 1843. Before 1847 they went on to Wisconsin where his daughter Mary was born. Now I haven't known where in Pennsylvania William was born but I found that Galon's brother Truman (born 1800 Richmond, Cheshire, New Hampshire) and possibly other siblings had moved to Greenfield, Lackawanna County, PA. Truman Whipple died in Greenfield, PA in 1845 and two of his sons were burried there in 1824 and 1825."
