!SOURCE: Email from Jon Whipple (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 2 Oct 2002. Jon writes: "Ellen Burns is unrelated to Charles except through marriage. She was Walter Wesley Whipple's wife. I believe he became acquainted with her when he and his family (Russell Giles Whipple) lived in Henry Co., IL with them. It seems that Walter came to Illinois with his brother around 1854. When the Civil War broke out, he enlisted as a private in the 13th IL US Cavalry. After the war, he somehow made it back to Ohio and married Ellen Burns. Then he brought her back to Illinois. After Walter died in 1887, at some time she moved to Greenfield, IA. It was here she married her nephew Charles on 9 Sep 1937. This was one year after Charles' wife died in Anoka MN. This sure is confusing."

Whipple, who survived her...She is survived by four sons (Charles "Willis" from Anacortes Washington; William "Winn" from Adair Co, Iowa; David "Arthur" from Cambridge, Illinois & Harry from St. Louis, Missouroi); eleven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren, who mourn her loss.
