!NAME: "There has been considerable confusion as to my great grandfather's given names. He was christened Lysander Greenlief Whipple. The Southborough [Massachusetts] Vital Records have Lyander Greenlief and this somehow got into IGI. It is incorrect - doubtless a transcription error. Dan [Whipple] and I have verified that his correct first given name was Lysander. Dan has checked some directories for Boston and I have checked shipping lists for his voyage to Australia: both have Lysander. Further confusion arises since, when he was naturalised in New South Wales in 1860, he changed his name to William Francis Whipple - I can't say I blame him!" --T. Whipple
