!SOURCE: Email from Kenneth Bernier (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 16 Apr 2011. Cites obituary of Emer Mowry, published in a local newspaper Feb. 8, 1898:
Emer Mowry, a life-long resident of North Smithfield, died yesterday at the home of his son, Francis Mowry, in that town, of old age, in the 89th year of his age.He was the son of Darius and Lydia (Colwell) Mowry. His father was born in the old town of Smithfield before it was divided, and his mother was a native of Glocester. Mr. Mowry lived during his long and well-spent life in his native place, tilling the soil and following the peaceful occupation of a farmer. He was an old-time Jacksonian Democrat and took a deep interest in the questions of the day, always attending the town meetings, if possible, and casting his vote in the ballot box with faithful regularity. He never held any public office, but took a deep interest in town affairs. He was married to Melaura, daughter of Moses and Elsie Mathewson of North Smithfield. Mrs. Mowry died 46 years ago. The couple were blessed with 14 children, eight of whom are now living. They are Francis and Daniel Mowry of North Smithfield, Clark of Iowa, Atwell of Illinois and Wilson Mowry of Providence. The daughters are Mrs. Albert S. Greene of Glendale, Mrs. Leander Smith of Nebraska, and Mrs. Jerusha Mowry of Nasonville. Mr. Mowry has lived with his son Francis for the past 13 years. He was an upright and highly respected citizen, a faithful friend and a loving father and husband. He has a brother, Olney A. Mowry, of North Smithfield, who is 86 years old.
