!SOURCE: Email from Hugh Hudson (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 20 May 2010. He writes: "I find evidence from other Stophlet researchers that Preserved Whipple Stophlet 132479 died in January 1864. He served in Union Army during Civil War." In email from Hugh to Weldon Whipple 8 Sep 2014, Hugh retracts his earlier suggestion that Preserved died in the Civil War. He cites the following:
On March 16, 1886 P. W. Stophlet sold property at Walnut Ridge [New Columbia, Massac] for $350 to M.A. Robinet with recourse to reclaim if intoxicating liquors are used on the property.
Preserved W. Stophlet, Samoth, [Massac] Illinois, married Clarece C. Staton in Samoth, [Massac] Illinois on June 19, 1881. Parents are Lorenzo D. Stophlet and Margaret Gillim, and William T. Cagle and Elizabeth J. Lyles, resprectively. Witnesses are James R. Brown, Clarence Cagle, and P. W. Stophlet. Entry 636.
