!SOURCE: Email from B. Huckins to Weldon Whipple, 16 July 2009. "I have the parents of Amos as Robert Whipple b 11.24.1754 Gloucester [Massachusetts? or Glocester, Rhode Island?] who res Ashford CT and then Western NY (that part which was bordering Herkimer when the line was moved 1792 and reformed to Cazenovia when Frankfort was annexed to Whitestown with Utica forming from a portion thereof. Whitestown was reincorporated as Whitesboro and the terms are interchangeable and referenced as belonging to Oneida or Herkimer. The Robert Whipple who came with Arnold Wells from Deerfield, MA (Pioneers of Utica, Bagg, 1877, page 32) refers to him as having married while in RI a widow and he came to Utica with the wife and wife's daughter and formed a partnership with Watts Sherman. Watts Sherman m Olivia Jillson dau of Amy Whipple and James Jilson. I do not have the name of Robert's wife however I have seen it listed as Zulphia."

!SOURCE: Find a Grave web site memorial 19976480, cited 22 Nov 2023. Gives birth 1754, death 21 Apr 1840, buried in Grandview Cemetery, Whitesboro, Oneida County, New York. Copy of death notice:

Died at Whitestown, on the 21st instant, Robert Whipple, aged 86 years. The deceased was one of the number who toiled for the independence of his country amid the struggles of the Revolution. He was also among the first settlers of Oneida county, having been here over half a century. The forest and its original savage lords he saw recede before the advance of civilization and improvement, until upon his own farm, where his own axe had felled the sturdy tree of the forest the canal boat floated onward its freight, and the puffing of the locomotive was heard. He was an upright, honest man, a kind neighbor and a sincere christian. In a good old age has he been gathered to his people.
