Carrie M Malnory's mother died the same year that Carrie was born in 1882. Almira "Dot" (Root) Whipple who had married William H Whipple (son of William W Whipple and Rosannah) would have been Carrie's great aunt, but she had already passed away. But the sister of Dot (Root) Whipple, a 49-year-old woman named Caroline (Root) Ellis, would step forward and raise the great niece of her deceased sister.
Jacob Ellis and his wife Caroline (Root) Ellis raised Carrie Malnory from infancy, Carrie took the name Kitty Ellis although it is not known if she was formally adopted by the Ellis family.
