!MARRIAGE: Henry E. Whipple's use of pronouns on p. 42 isn't completely clear. (It isn't clear, for example, whether Ann was married to Joseph Whipple or his father, George Washington Whipple. In email dated 16 Jan 2000, Sarah O'Dowd (email hidden) clarifies Ann's marriage to Joseph: "The evidence that confirms this is found in the RI Death Index at the state archives, which shows that 'Ann Whipple, age 54, died April 1, 1868. Place of death - 22 Stampers. Married white female - wife of Joseph. born in Coventry RI parents: romwell and Mary Peck. Died of typhoid.' Another source of the confusion may be that George's wife was apparently referred to as both "Ann" and "Nancy". She was born about 1784; died Jan. 13, 1823; married George Washington Whipple on April 6, 1804."
