!MILITARY: Neil served in the Army in the South Pacific during WWII, driving or acting as part of the crew of an armored "half track" vehicle. He was involved in a major battle at Okinawa as a member of the First Cavalry (The Big Red '1'). After the surrender of Japan, he finished his tour of duty as part of the Occupation Forces in Japan, attached to the 82nd Airborne.
