Notes

!SOURCE: Email from Beverly H (email hidden) to Weldon Whipple, 3 Mar 2017. She writes:
Robert Whipple, of Portsmouth county of Rockingham NH, petitioned the court in 1782 for a divorce from his wife Eunice Pike.Y It was stated in the petition that Robert was a mariner, had been married to Eunice about 10 years when in August of 1780 he sailed to the West Indies, was taken prisoner and held in England for almost two years. Upon returning to Portsmouth he found his wife had given birth to a child not his own and so filed for divorce which was granted in Dec 1782. (Laws of New Hampshire During the Revolutionary Years)

It would appear from this that this Robert would have been born 1740-50.Y Could it be that Captn Whipple's (I3454) son is not the one who d 1761 or possibly Robert was the son of Joseph and grandson to Captn Whipple.Y It is also entirely possible that this Robert was not of the Portsmouth/Kittery line and came from another place just as easily.

My only other guess on this would be that there were more children of Jeremiah Whipple and Deborah Bucklin than you have recorded.Y I have seen an Oliver attributed to them along with a Martha and Bella Whipple.Y Oliver was perhaps of N.H.Y Have not found any proof of these children, however YI have seen records of an Oliver having been in Portsmouth around the time that this Robert was there.Y At the time during the Revolution and leading up to it when travel was restricted I have found records of Oliver of Portsmouth being granted liberty of travel to Massachusetts without bond, he is referred to as Oliver Whipple, Esq.Y I have assumed that this may have been Col Oliver who would have been a grandson to Jeremiah first above as Col Oliver's children were born in Portsmouth during that time period.

A Robert Whipple of Portsmouth Yjoined 10.15.1776 ship's crew as an Armorer. (Officers and Crew on the Continental Frigate Raleigh sailing out of the Piscataqua River 1777)
