!OCCUPATION: "Engaged in farming half a century." --J.G. Bartlett

!SOURCE: Email from N. Combs to Weldon Whipple, 25 Jul 2005. Excerpted from Will County, IL History: Past and Present of Will County, v.2 1907:

William Whipple {29232} came to IL in 1832 from Watertown, Jefferson, NY and was a pioneer of IL, purchasing canal land. Until 1844 he followed merchandising, then he turned to farming. His wife's maiden name was Miss Gibson; she was a native of VT and died at the age of 45. {This doesn't agree with her being 54 on the 1860 census, but she isn't on the 1870 census.} They had two daughters, one of whom--Mrs. Henry Decker--died about two years ago {abt 1905}; the other is Mrs. Thomas Turner of Ford County, IL. Their son is Levi B. Whipple {29231}, subject of this biographical sketch. William Whipple died about six years ago {abt 1901} at the age of 81.
Also notes/cites the following:

!SOURCE: Email from Beverly H. to Weldon Whipple, 8 Mar 2018: "The death records for both Levi B. and wife Harriett are found in the California death records.YTaking that info to FindaGrave I found Levi's son, Lester (and presumably his parents and sister and his wife)Yare all buried together in Plainfield, Illinois with matching stones. The stones for the parents could be memorial stones,Ybut in any event it would seem likely that son Lester was the informant for the stones.YThoseY stones read 'Father born Mar 7, 1846 - died Dec 21, 1923' and 'Mother born Jan 31 1848 - died May 31, 1925'Y which match the California death records.YWinnifred's stone reads dates matching what you have."
