Second Marriage of Simon Oakes Whipple
Deposition from E. Hitchcook, of Derby, County of Orleans VT a Notary had examined the family Bible in which is recorded the birth of Mary J. Allen, widow of Simon O. Whipple.Mary J. Allen born September 7,1847. The Bible bears the publication date of 1875. The place of her birth was Pomfret, Windsor County, Vermont. (Date of pension stamped Oct 4, 1917.)
Mary J. Allen McCllelan: Upon Oath claims: "I was born in Pomfret, Windsor County, VT on 7th of Sept 1847, that my maiden name was Allen, that on Oct 18, 1865, I was married to Samuel McClellan and lived with him as his wife until his death which occurred on July 28, 1901, That I was married to Simon O. Whipple on March 18,1904 and lived with him as his wife until his death which occurred on November 13, 1907
